This book is a good analog filter reference. It has plenty of look up tables and graphs for designing analog filters. As you might gather from the title, it has more of a microwave/RF slant to it. If you are looking for active filters look elsewhere; that simply is not covered here.I must admit I was a bit disappointed with this book when I got it. There are only a few chapters which deal with lumped element filter design, which I guess is reasonable, but when they start to describe filters for higher frequencies, they are almost all waveguide based. There is no coverage on filters for microstrip topologies.One other thing that I was disappointed with was the fact that if you wanted to design a filter with your own transfer function, there were no synthesis sections describing how to get to that point. In other words, if you were looking to design a filter outside of anything that fell out of the look up tables, then you were out of luck.These pet peeves aside, the material that is covered is done pretty well. My biggest disappointments were based on what was missing and not necessarily what is contained within.

The Bible for Filter design. Theory is a bit overwhelming- it’s not a beginners book.

This book contained classical principle for microwave engineer such as table of filter sysnthesis with many types of magnitude and phase response approximation which is still useful today, while size of the book is more than 1000 pages at the cost less than 150 USD. I think if you are serious engineer or book collector such as me you should by this book.Someday I will translating some principles in this book into my book in Thai language.

Old school book, to the point but filled with good theory and rich in concepts and fundamentals. Pretty much every other book on filters written after this one, cites it. A must have if you design filters.

The most practical and useful RF/Microwave /mmW text on the subject ever put to print.A wellspringThis volume serves as reference to all other useful books published since. I used it over and over to design and synthesize filters in coaxial, w/g, microstrip, CPW and mixed structures over the years. Once you become familiar with the conceptual depth of this subject, aided by this book, you will dive into lowpass filters, notch filters, bandpass filters, etc, learning to experiment with dual mode architectures (suitable in waveguide) and even evanescent modes; not to mention couplers and dividers of various kinds. In fact, the sections on coupling structures are thorough and adequate, applicable to many different topologies. This is NOT for the faint hearted RF engineer who needs designs spelled out for him and/or modeling programs to mislead him. One needs to know one's quarter waves.In fact, this text inspires the good engineer to compose his own programs and software; it contains a true wealth of data and information. My copies (purchased a second copy 20 years ago) are well worn and falling apart; written in, highlighted, folded, torn you name it.Paid for itself a few times over

This book is excellent. I use this book regularly in my research in Microwave Engineering. I have been able to develop very good impedance matching networks using the techniques put forth in this book. The presentation is excellent and very comprehensive. Despite being over 20 years old this book contains information that will help any RF Microwave Engineer. I feel that all RF Microwave Engineers should have this book in thier personal library. My advisor and the other graduate students refer to this book as "MYJ, the bible."I would like to see much more description on how coupled microstrip resonators can be realized. I guess Gupta's book is good for that tho.IN SUMMARY EXCELLENT MUST HAVE BOOK.

This book is the most complete reference to Microwave Filters and the like that one can find. It is a must for RF and microwave engineers anywhere.
