Ashe, the Associate Chair of the Masters of Professional Studies in Digital Photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, is an internationally recognized educator and consultant in digital photography and color management. He received his Bachelor of Science in Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, and his Masters of Applied Science in Photography from RMIT University (formerly Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) in Melbourne, Australia. Tom’s background as a photographer, fine art digital printmaker, and product development specialist for Eastman Kodak, Monaco Systems, and Polaroid, gives him a unique understanding of the aesthetic and technical issues in digital photography today. Series Editor Katrin Eismann is the Chair of the Masters of Professional Studies in Digital Photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Known as the Photoshop Diva, Katrin is an internationally respected artist, teacher, and author. I'm actually only half finished reading this book but I can already see that this is a 'must read' text for anyone who is serious about fine arts printing. I am already quite familiar with most of what he's writing about and that gives me some perspective in reviewing the quality and quantity of knowledge found in this book. Even with my experience in fine arts printing, I've already learned several new things and clarified many other concepts about color management.How can a book on such a technical subject be so hard to put down? This one is so engaging and packed with history, facts, suggested settings and techniques that it completely holds my interest. The depth that Ashe goes into is sometimes more information than you might need, but if you really want to understand why things are the way they are in color management, then this comprehensive treatment is an aspect of his writing that can be appreciated.Due to the in-depth and often complex nature of the subject matter, beginners may find Ashe's book a bit intimidating. But, if you already have some experience in color management work flow, the book can be invaluable. I've been highlighting and page marking the heck out the book so far, and will use it as one of my main references.Color Management & Quality Output is certainly up-to-date but this will remain true only for a few years at best due to the rapid evolution of the software and hardware associated with color management and printing.
It's great to see another book out on Color Management and the info is well presented. I made a mistake in buying the kindle version - most illustrations and diagrams are so small and compressed that you can't read them (enlarging them just brought up blurry images)! I've tested it on my Kindle FireHD and Kindle Reader for Mac with the same result. If you are thinking of buying - get the actual book!
A real book of tons of highly technical information given in a way that you actually learn, IF you DO it as they say.
Clearly written and comprehensive. I've looked at other advanced color management books and this one seems to be the easiest to understand.
